About the Journal

Product description

The Brazilian Journal of Oncology (ISSN 2526-8732) is a successor to the Revista Brasileira de Oncologia Clínica (ISSN 1806-6054), a print journal previously managed by the Sociedade Brasileira de Oncologia Clínica (Brazilian Society of Clinical Oncology). Volume 1 and the inaugural issue were released in April 2004.

The Revista Brasileira de Oncologia Clínica was temporarily discontinued in 2015 after its Volume 12 and resumed in 2017 with Volume 13, featuring a new ISSN (2526-8732) and its current name, the Brazilian Journal of Oncology.

The Brazilian Journal of Oncology was launched with an expanded scope, exclusively in an online format, and received support from two new medical specialty societies in the field of oncology: the Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia Oncológica (Brazilian Society of Surgical Oncology), and the Sociedade Brasileira de Radioterapia (Brazilian Society of Radiotherapy). In May 2023, the Sociedade Brasileira de Oncologia Pediátrica (Brazilian Society of Pediatric Oncology) joined forces with these three societies to co-sponsor the journals.

Aims and scope

Official publication of the Sociedade Brasileira de Oncologia Clínica - SBOC (Brazilian Society of Clinical Oncology), Sociedade Brasileira de Oncologia Pediátrica - SOBOPE (Brazilian Society of Pediatric Oncology), Sociedade Brasileira de Radioterapia - SBRT (Brazilian Society of Radiotherapy), and Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia Oncológica - SBCO (Brazilian Society of Surgical Oncology).

The first issue of the Brazilian Journal of Oncology was published on March 30, 2017. In January 2019, the journal's publishing model was changed. Previously, the journal followed a traditional approach of publishing complete online editions at fixed intervals. However, it has transitioned to the current model of continuous publication.

Under this new publication model, articles are published online in their final form, including all identifying details, as soon as they are reviewed, approved, and formatted. The articles are continuously published within annual volumes, ensuring a more streamlined and efficient publication process.

This periodical publishes peer-reviewed clinical and translational studies in all areas of oncology, including clinical oncology, pediatrics, surgery, and radiation therapy. Through the publication of peer-reviewed research, the Brazilian Journal of Oncology's mission is to make available full-text, free original research and reviews of innovative advances in Oncology to improve the clinical care of patients with cancer.

We consider the publication of original papers, case reports, reviews (invited and submitted), editorial comments (invited), and letters to the editor. Contributions accepted for publication become the property of the journal. The responsibility for the concepts emitted in the articles lies with the authors.

The Brazilian Journal of Oncology audience comprises medical professionals from different oncology disciplines and subspecialties, including medical, pediatric, surgical, therapeutic radiology, hematology, gynecologic, and urologic oncology. Readers include physicians, researchers, pharmaceuticals, oncology nurses, and other healthcare practitioners with a predominant interest in oncology.

Brazilian Journal of Oncology requires that authors follow the ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly work in Medical Journals. More information can be found in https://www.icmje.org.
